Why I think a "drill press table" is not an enhancement. At the risk of stating the apparent, I wish to point out that the purpose of a drill press is to drill consistently straight holes accurately into metal, plastic or wood. The purpose of a drill press with a fence is to drill recurring holes in a work piece at a constant distance from the edge of a work piece. The purpose of a drill press with a fence and one (or 2) stops is to drill holes at a constant range from one or both ends of a work piece or work pieces. The purpose of a drill press with a tilting table is to drill repeatable and precise holes at a specific angle into the work piece. The function of an electrical drill is to drill holes just where utilizing a drill press would be not practical or impossible.

There are lots of things to consider when comparing drill presses such as motor size, table size and features, quill stroke, task lighting, laser schedule, rotation speeds, ease of speed modification, variety of speeds, reversible feed manage (for lefties) and even the size of the base (for device stability).
With regard to motor size, experience tells me that 3/4 horsepower has to do with the tiniest size motor I want to see on a drill press. Some designs attempt to get away with a 1/2 horse power motor. There are times, particularly at greater belt speed ratios that a half horse power motor will prove to be insufficient.
I am discussing the 2800 PM as an example of what a drill press might be if loan were no item. The other drill presses I examined were both really capable machines and would absolutely do the job in a typical woodworking store.
The important things about the Powermatic is that it is simply plain neat! It has all the bells and whistles a designer could think up. The individual who created this thing plainly knows a lot about drill presses and woodworking from personal experience. , if loan were no object it would be the drill press I would purchase.. A person can dream, can't he?
Like any Powermatic device, this drill press has top quality, smooth operation and includes to die for. When compared to other similar devices, it likewise has a rather substantial rate tag. That stated, let's have a look at what you get for your money so you can choose if it's worth making the jump.
This drill press features twin LED lights, mounted in the head that do not cast shadows, head-mounted twin lasers that determine the drill point, a 16" x 14" table with twin T-slots that broadens to 16" x 26" when had to support big work pieces. The table tilts left or best 90 degrees with a positive stop at no degrees. A big handle makes raising or decreasing the table simple. An additional, special feature that is consisted of in the price of this device is an adjustable split fence with a dust collection port. If you don't buy this device, a fence is important to production work so plan on buying or making one.
Speeds are quickly altered from 400 to 3000 RPM with a deal with on the upper left side of the head, indicating that you do not need to issue yourself with belt and wheel access. And, you can tell how quick or slow the maker is running by looking at a digital speed indication right on the front of the head. In the front of the head is a lighted on/off switch with a key.
At the threat of stating the obvious, I 'd like to point out that the function of a drill press is to drill regularly straight holes properly into metal, plastic or wood. The function of a drill press with a fence is to drill recurring holes in a work piece at a constant range from the edge of a work piece. The purpose of a drill press with a fence and one (or 2) stops is to drill holes at a constant range from one or both ends of a work piece or work pieces. The function of a drill press with a tilting table is to drill repeatable and precise holes at a specific angle into the work piece. The purpose of an electric drill is to drill holes only where using a drill press would be difficult or not practical.
